The Lindens are in Bloom

The air is a scentual bouquet of fragrant linden blossoms. The first summer I lived in this old industrial city of Troy along the Hudson River in upstate New York was my introduction to the scent of the Linden tree (Tilia cordata). The warm floral, honey-like aroma would visit through open windows of my second floor apartment facing the park, but the source mysteriously evaded me. The fragrance would punctuate the languid summer atmosphere during evening strolls. The exact temporal moment of discovering the source has not lingered. What continues though is the olfactory sensation and the almost giddy anticipation of Linden tree bloom time around mid-June to July. Each milky-white flower cluster, or cyme, is paired with a heartshaped serrate leaf that drapes downward appearing as if to be dripping from the trees' branches. I intentionally go to stand under these trees and look up into their branches to breathe in the aromatic scent of the blossoms. A favorite source of nectar, during the day the trees are abuzz with foraging honey and bumble bees hence the name 'bee trees' .

Sip a cup of linden tea, fleurs de tilleul, and enjoy its relaxing effect. Linden blossom essential oil has been reported to calm nervous tension and stress-related conditions. I have blended Linden blossom, Frankincense and Petitgrain diluted in Jojoba as a carrier oil. This blended trio of essential oils are useful for massage, with additional skin care benefits to smooth and tone. If you are interested in knowing more about the blend please contact me at:
